4/29/2024 0 Comments Type 2 and 4 equal enneagramSimply put, if an individual is not introspectively self focused, they are not a 4. At the same time, I do find that many Fe (INFJ) people also type as 1’s, and many Fi (INFP) people type as 9’s or 6’s. As an example, Fe picks up on how others feel but 4’s filter this still through the lense of their own feelings (how others feelings make them feel). Still, even if you do subscribe to MBTI, I agree that Fe or Fi leading individuals (namely INFJ and INFP) can be 4’s– this however, does not change what a 4 is. I hear your thoughts on MBTI, but personally find that functions can’t explain WHY we do what we do and thus aren’t realistic or consistent psychologically the way motivations are. I totally agree with you that one of 4’s greatest strengths is seeing beauty in tragedy (via redemption) but I see this as part of the focus on the negative the 4 is built on– it’s why 4’s have a unique perspective on beauty found in darkness, because they (unlike most people) actually look AT the darkness. I wouldn’t say that 4 is in “negative mode”, but more in “self focused mode”, seeing the world through their own introspection and struggles. When compared to the complaint and extremely people pleasing nature of 2, 4 is very self focused. 4) is predominantly comparing 4 to 2, not just commenting on core 4 alone. Hey Fly, thanks for chiming in! I’m very familiar with Instincts, and in fact it’s one of my pet topics– check out my graphics on the 4 instincts here (based on the work of Claudio Naranjo): Thanks friends, see you next time as I cover the wings of The Achiever! For now, I hope this helps to explain my use of these terms. This gives us a spectacular example, because these types are different on both fronts! I think I’ll have to write more on this topic in another post, and how it can be an excellent tool to prevent mistyping. When we look at 4, we see that it is a Reactive and Withdrawn type. When we look at 2, we see that it is a Reframing and Compliant type. Because these traits come in groups of three, combining them can shed a lot of insight on the differences between Enneagam types! In another trait triangle, we see three different ways of interacting with the world: Aggressive (3, 7, 8), Compliant (1, 2, 6) and Withdrawn (4, 5, 9). It’s important to note that these traits are not opposites, which is why I included the graphic below in my video.Īcross the Enneagram, we see three different conflict styles: Reactive (4, 6, 8), Reframing (2, 7, 9) and Competency (1, 3, 5). One thing I did want to expand a bit on, is a component that I mention in the video: 4’s Reactivity vs. Feel free to drop me a line if you have thoughts or questions! Aaand I’m back with a video, yay! If you’ve ever wondered about some of the differences between the Helper and the Individualist, this is for you.
